A few days ago, I was invited to meet with (FDNY Foundation Chairman) Stephen Ruzow, (FDNY Foundation Executive Director) Jean O’ Shea, (Fire Zone Director) Nerisha Rivero, and Lieutenant Mancusto (Fire Safety Spokesperson) at the FDNY Fire Zone. It was a time to learn all about fire safety and how to stay safe in this winter weather.




Also in attendance at the event were a few of the AccuWeather staff including Chief Executive Officer, Barry Lee Myers, (Chief Marketing Officer) John Dokes and Meteorologist, Laura Velasquez. We were going to hear all about being #AccuWeatherReady.



The AccuWeather Ready program is actually a new year-round weather preparedness program that focuses on keeping people safe and informed with talks and tips on what you need to do as well as mock “House fire” with preparations and instructions on what to do if it happens to you. In times of severe weather conditions, like these frosty filled chills in NYC, the difference between being ready and failing to prepare can often determine the difference between safety or chaos, or even life or death! Each Year, there are dozens of people who actually die from weather related incidents. It’s often on the news, especially in these chilling winter months.   1. We need to get a plan in case something happens. We are zero predent prepared and we should be 100% prepared since we are in tornado valley. We have been very lucky though not to get hit where we are.
