As we were growing up, my mother would always make sure our health was Top-Notch! I never really encountered any nurses unless I went to my routine check up. Everyone ALWAYS remembers their doctors, but what about their nurses? I encountered SO many wonderful nurses the day I checked into the hospital to have my beautiful baby girl. Here’s how I remember them…
Although I was scheduled for a January 9th due date, my daughter wouldn’t make her grand entrance until a week later. On the 15th, I was induced and being that if was my first time going through this I had a LOT of questions. The first nurse on duty was very sweet! She listened to my questions and answered them calmly and very informatively. One of my questions being “How does it feel when my water break?” Her answer “Well, It’ll feel like a rubber-band snapped. It wont hurt at all, but the following contractions will be uncomfortable.” She chatted with me for a few more seconds and left the room. 5 Seconds later, I paged her back in due to my water breaking. She wasn’t upset. She wasn’t annoyed. She was happy for me.
After 22 hours of labor, My daughter made her entrance into the world within 10 minutes of pushing on January 16th. The Doctors were great in leading me through it since I skipped out on Lamaze classes and a nurse was there providing any needed support for me and for baby. Everyone followed baby to go see her being given her first check up and make sure all was alright. I, on the other hand, was left with my mom and a sweet nurse (different that the first) who helped me get on my feet and take a few steps (since I had gotten an epidural and was Numbed).
January 17th: Morning Nurse. She brought in my baby and said “Hey mom, want to try feeding her?” Of course I was scared, but it was something I couldn’t wait to do. It didn’t go so well, but that nurse reassured me that it happens, it’s not my fault, and that it’s going to take time. She actually went out of her way to find me an available breast pump (with new accessories) so that I could let down. I kept my baby for a whole day, then the next day was time to get another check up. The nurse picked her up, then brought her back that afternoon with a cute little Bow hat that I had asked her to find for me. She also gave me words of encouragement when they delivered the news that there was a great possibility that my sweet baby girl had hearing loss. I loved my Nurses.

November 20, 2015 at 6:49 amMy favorite nurse that most stands out is Nurse Janet. When I had my first baby, everything was totally new to me and my milk wasn't coming in. She told me to start pumping (as well as having the baby suck on my breast like I was doing). After trying a couple of pumping sessions, my milk finally came in and I was so relieved. I wish I would have started pumping to help get the milk going right away, but am so thankful to her for her advice! Julie smartsavvymama@gmail.com

November 20, 2015 at 6:59 pmI’ll never forget one particular nurse. Her name was Sophia. She helped me when I was in labor with my first son. She was so sweet and funny. I was so scared and stressed about giving birth, but she was very reassuring and motivating. She was very attentive and even stayed an hour past the end of her shift, because she wanted to be with me until I gave birth. I was pushing for almost three hours, the OBGYN told me that if I didn’t deliver after three hours, I would have to have a C-section. Sophia kept me going, I was exhausted after 14 hours of labor and not getting any sleep for the past 34+ hours. I’m sure that my baby boy would have been delivered safely if she wasn’t there, but she made it enjoyable, even when I was in pain. My son was in the NICU for the first couple days due to me having a fever when he was delivered (just a precaution). She was off for two days after I delivered, but she came to visit me and my baby. She really went above and beyond. Anyone to have her by their side during delivery is very lucky.
