Adventure is all about seizing opportunities! Especially the kind that push you slightly out of your comfort zone while filling you with excitement, passion, and enthusiasm. During an unforgettable press trip to Costa Rica with my daughter, we discovered some of the best places to be adventurous in Costa Rica. From wildlife-filled canals to heart-pounding zip lines.
We encountered incredible animals, tasted new foods, and said yes to experiences that made lasting memories. If you’re planning an adventurous trip to Costa Rica, these are the places you won’t want to miss.
Tapirus Lodge
Located within Braulio Carrillo National Park, Tapirus Lodge offers adventure wrapped in lush rainforest scenery. Early Nature walks led us to fascinating frog and spider species we would’ve never seen otherwise. The aerial tram lifted us high above the forest floor.
From the tram, we spotted unique plants, colorful flowers, and stunning tree patterns only visible from an aerial view. This was truly one of the most immersive nature adventures in Costa Rica.
Tortuguero Canals
Exploring the Tortuguero Canals by boat was one of the most peaceful yet exciting experiences of the trip. Depending on water levels, you’ll encounter birds, lizards, or even alligators along the way.
We spotted a white-faced monkey, blue heron birds, a teenage alligator, a piano bird (named for the piano-key pattern on its wings), and several scarlet macaws! I was living my Eliza Thornberry dreams! Beyond the wildlife, this boat ride gives you a glimpse into a community that relies solely on boats and bikes… no cars in sight!
This Boating trip wasn’t all about the animals though… You can really take in nature and the beautiful community that does not use and land vehicles and solely relies on boats and bikes to get where they need to go.
La Fortuna Waterfall
This enchanting place is absolutely stunning! It’s an adventure all on its own due to the 500 steps down that it takes to reach the waterfall. And yes, another 500 steps back up… but every step is worth it.
At the base, crystal-clear water flows into a natural pool where you can swim alongside visible fish.
My daughter was nervous at first. But after a little while, it was the furthest thing from her mind.
Ecoglide Arenal Park
If adrenaline is what you’re after, Ecoglide Arenal Park delivers! With 14 platforms and 12 canopy cables, this zip-lining adventure is perfect even for beginners. The guides provided a quick training session before loading everyone into a 4×4 that took us straight to the top.
Once you start zip-lining, you won’t want to stop. And if you’re feeling extra bold, the Tarzan Swing is an absolute must! I have videos… and yes, they’re hilarious (coming soon!).
Final Thoughts on Adventuring in Costa Rica
